THE STORY

Adults aged 60 and over will embark, starting in December 2025, on a special research journey on the theme of loneliness together with six very different groups - including children, young people, individuals with migration and refugee backgrounds, people with disabilities, and those living alone. Accompanied by the directing team - Janina Haring, Laura Teiwes, Anna Müller, and Virginie Bousquet - this process will lead to the creation of a theatre piece that brings together the experiences and perspectives of many different people.

Millions of people in Germany are affected by loneliness - often unnoticed and sometimes burdened by shame. The German Competence Network on Loneliness estimates that more than 10% of the population experience chronic loneliness. Loneliness often operates beneath the surface, unfolding its impact quietly and invisibly. Our project seeks to overcome the silence surrounding this issue and make the invisible visible - through dialogue, encounters, and a collaboratively developed theatre piece that will be presented to the public.

Loneliness is thus made visible and addressed as a social issue that affects health, social cohesion, and democracy. The piece aims to raise awareness of loneliness and to encourage public dialogue.
